The journey of Libero Cinema in Libera Terra 2020

Libero Cinema in Libera Terra 2020, the Moveable Feast 15th edition.

Libero Cinema in Libera Terra is a traveling Film Festival that for 15 years has been traveling in Italy and Europe in those places where Mafia assets have been confiscated and given back to the community.

However due to the COVID-19 pandemic the “cine-van” of Libero Cinema had to stop its physical wheels and activate some digital ones: instead of open air screenings form city squares an online film festival will alight. We may have a brand new digital cine-van for Moveable Feast but our aim is untouched: the urgency and willingness to keep a spotlight on social justice, the fight against all mafias and corruption.

Of course we don’t stop we will just move further into the digital world to celebrate our Moveable Feast 15th edition, whose main focus will be the “right to a new world” for everyone.

You have also seen our Logo has changed a bit, to adjust to current times: our magical tree made of film leaves has been intertwined with cables to nourish our connection into the digital world.

In fact, the program of the 15th edition of our Moveable Feast, Libero Cinema in Libera Terra 2020 will be announced during an online press conference at 12 pm on 10th July 2020 streamed on Cinemovel.tv and Libera.it websites.

The press conference will be held by the president of Cinemovel Foundation Elisabetta Antognoni and Fabrizio Grosoli, curator of the movies’ selection. Following, a speech by Don Luigi Ciotti, founder of Libera (Italy’s most important non-profit organisation in the fight against all mafias), Pierluigi Stefanini and Marisa Parmigiani respectively president and director of Unipolis Foundation. Claudio Siciliano will also present the program of the youth summer camps Estate Liberi!

The 15th edition of our Moveable Feast Libero Cinema in Libera Terra will take place online over three days on 14th 15th and 16th July 2020. The online platform Mymovies.it will be our virtual screening square.

On the inaugural evening the 14th July 2020 Enrico Fontana will present the online format “Diritti al nuovo mondo – Libero cinema incontra” (the “Right to a new world, Libero Cinema meet ups”) an interactive debate with authors and film directors from around the world discussing current socio-economic and cultural transformations in our societies.

On the inaugural evening, the 14th July 2020, Don Luigi Ciotti, founder of the non- profit Libera and other personalities form the non-profit Abele Group will animate a debate on the subject of “educational poverty”. The following days, 15th and 16th July 2020 will be dedicated respectively to two continents too often overlooked such as South America and Africa.

Over the three screening days debates will start at 8.45 pm followed by film screenings at 9.30 pm. From 10th July 2020 it will be possible to book a “virtual seat” to the screenings on the platform Mymovies.it.

Screening programming will be as follows:

14th July online screening of La nostra strada”(Our Street) by Piero Li Donni

15th July online screening of Il sale della terra”(The salt of the Earth) by Wim Wenders

16th July online screening ofAppena apro gli occhi: canto per la libertà”(As I open my eyes) by Leyla Bouzid.

Our Moveable Feast, Libero Cinema in Libera Terra 2020, will start online on 14th 15th and 16th July 2020 but finally will start travelling on the streets again in September to reach those places where Mafia assets have been reclaimed and repurposed by the civil society. The debates from the format “Diritti al nuovo mondo – Libero cinema incontra” (the “Right to a new world, Libero Cinema meet ups”) will take place in the real squares with the testimony of people engaged in the never ending battle against all mafias and organised crime, but they will also be live streamed to reach out to our online audience as well.

Libero Cinema in Libera Terra is a traveling Film Festival, a Moveable Feast, since 2006 has been traveling in Italy and Europe in those places where Mafia assets have been confiscated by the judicial system and given back to the community. Its aim is to highlight through film screenings important topics like social justice and the fight against organised crime, and the importance to support the advancement of social rights.

The aim of its 15th edition is also to bring back the spotlight on the socio-economic conditions of South America and Africa, too often unjustly overlooked by mainstream media outlets. Our aim is to break the isolation of our societies to give the same dignity to everyone’ seek for progress and cultural and economic advancement.

That is why after difficult months of lockdowns and isolation of our societies caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Cinemovel Foundation through the Moveable Feast Libero Cinema in Libera Terra 2020 has chosen to focus its efforts in promoting the “right to a new world”. People rights become central to our personal elaboration on what is happening in our societies in the face of the new challenges in the forthcoming years. And how it is so crucial to us all that the right to education, to personal and social improvement are shared and accessible to all, in order not to leave anyone behind.

This is our invitation to everyone who is interested in those topics to share our journey and listen to the different stories and point of views brought to light during our new adventure for the Moveable Feast Libero Cinema in Libera Terra, 2020.
