Piera Aiello è una politica italiana. A 18 anni fu costretta a sposare Nicola, il figlio di un mafioso.
Dopo pochi giorni il padre di Nicola, Vito Atria venne ucciso e in seguito nel 1991 venne ucciso pure lui cercando di vendicare il padre. Piera decide di denunciare gli assassini e collabora con la polizia e la magistratura insieme alla sorella di Nicola, Rita Atria. Collabora in particolare con il magistrato Paolo Borsellino che diventò come una figura paterna per lei e Rita, infatti dopo la strage della via d’Amelio, Rita si suicidò presa dalla paura e dallo sconforto. Piera da allora vive con un’altra identità anonima e sotto protezione visto che era sorvegliata e perseguitata sia dalla famiglia del defunto marito sia dagli assassini di quest’ultimo.
Oggi Piera Aiello è una deputata e componente della Commissione Nazionale Antimafia.
Nel 2019 venne inserita nella lista delle 100 donne più influenti al mondo.
